Drop In. Hear Better. Arizona's First Choice for Digital Hearing Aids
When you arrive for your hearing exam, you will be greeted by our Coordinator of First Impressions who will invite you to choose from a menu of fresh baked cookies and other refreshments. You will then be asked to fill out a simple Patient Questionnaire to document your personal information and hearing concerns. You will also receive a copy of the Notice of Health Information Privacy as mandated by law.
As your hearing exam begins your hearing healthcare professional will review your personal information with you and ask you some questions that are designed to shed light on your medical history and to discover the specific types of environments in which you may be experiencing some difficulty in hearing.
Next, the hearing care professional will use a high-tech video otoscope camera to look into your ears, your ear canal and your ear drum to see whether or not there is ear wax obstructing the canal. This will be surprisingly interactive, since the video otoscope will also allow you to see inside your ear as well!
The first step of the exam is called air & bone threshold testing and in most cases will be conducted in a spacious and well-lit soundproof booth with comfortable leather seating. The hearing care professional will place headphones that are connected to an audiometer into your ears. The audiometer transmits a series of tones at a variety of volumes into your ears to determine the exact point or “threshold” at which you can hear various frequencies (low to high pitches) of sounds. When you hear a sound, you will be asked to respond by simply saying, "yes."
Finally, the last step is the speech test. During this test you will listen to a series of one and two syllable words at different volumes and be asked to repeat them. This will determine the level at which you can not only hear, but also understand speech.
The results of your exam will be recorded on a graph called an audiogram and your hearing care professional will review it with you. The audiogram reflects your hearing loss in frequencies and volume in decibels.
